In other quarterfinals last night, the New Jersey Devils beat the Florida Panthers 3-2 in the opening game of their Eastern Conference series; the Detroit Red Wings topped the Nashville Predators 3-2 to tie their Western Conference series at 1-1; and the Los Angeles Kings defeated the Vancouver Canucks 4-2 for a 2-0 lead in their Western Conference series.
Claude Giroux and Sean Couturier each scored three goals for the Philadelphia Flyers who defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 8-5 to a take a 2-0 lead in their best- of-seven National Hockey League Eastern Conference series.
At the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Ian White and Cory Emmerton gave the Red Wings a 2-0 lead in the first period and Johan Franzen added a third goal in the second period. Andrei Kostitsyn and Shea Weber scored for the Predators.
At the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida, Patrik Elias, Dainius Zubrus and Ryan Carter gave the Devils three goals in the first period, while Sean Bergenheim and Kris Versteeg scored in the second period for the Panthers.
At Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Dustin Brown scored two goals and Jarret Stoll and Trevor Lewis added scores for the Kings. Jannik Hansen and Samuel Pahlsson tallied goals for the Canucks.
In tonight’s game, Washington travels to Boston, the New York Rangers host Ottawa, San Jose meets St. Louis and Chicago visits Phoenix.
At the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Jaromir Jagr and Maxime Talbot added two goals for the Flyers. Chris Kunitz had two goals for the Penguins.
