QB Matt Leinart Cut From Texans

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Houston Texans have released backup quarterback Matt Leinart, saving them $3 million in cap space. Leinart, who was among the highest paid backups in the league, took over for starting quarterback Matt Schaub in Week 11, but was promptly knocked out for the season with a shoulder injury. Drafted by the Arizona Cardinals with the 10th pick of the 2006 NFL Draft, Leinart was expected to become the franchise quarterback that had eluded the Cardinals. Leinart was instead unseated by the stellar performance of Kurt Warner, and it was soon clear he had fallen out of favor with the new coaching staff, led by Ken Whisenhunt. Leinart was released by the Cardinals September 4, 2010 and was signed by the Houston Texans just two days later. Over the 31 games he has played in, Leinart has completed 57.6 percent of his passes for 3,905 yards, 15 touchdowns and 20 interceptions, for a passer rating of 71.6.
